Assistant Counsel

Under the direction of supervising attorneys, the candidate will perform the full range of legal activities in support of the mission of the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs (Justice Center). The candidate will perform all technical work in the Office of the General Counsel's Records Access and Management Unit. Technical work will include analyzing confidential legal issues, researching statutes, decisions, opinions and other sources for use in the preparation of requests from the public as well as qualified individuals pursuant to Social Services Law 496. The candidate will also provide legal assistance and support to agency staff by analyzing legal questions regarding New York State and Federal confidentiality statutes. The candidate will provide supervision and direction to agency staff who perform redactions for a high volume of sensitive cases.

Salary Range:
From $88283 to $111592 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Admission to the New York State Bar and a member in good standing with two (2) years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission of the Bar.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
